In a word, no.
Our goal was to be 100% debt free, including the mortgage, by 2012. We still have our mortgage. We DO NOT have any other debt, which is a bonus. We paid off my husband’s student debt. We have bought two cars since I started this blog in 2006. We have taken trips all over the country, and one trip to Europe. My husband has maintained his employment in this shaky economy, and I have both gained and lost jobs during this time. It has been a very exciting journey.
Even though we did not make 100% of our goal, we are still closer than we would have been if we had decided that debt was a part of life and could not be avoided. We refinanced to an insanely low rate a few months ago, which will help accelerate our pay down date. Our new calculation is being 100% debt free by 2014. Still not so bad- and who knows? Maybe we’ll get it paid off earlier than that.
